I was 34 years old when I ran my first 1/2 marathon race.  This was a proud moment for me but subsequently I started having pain in my left Hip/Piriformis muscle.  I kept on running and continued to reinjure this area.  Even when I eventually stopped running, I still had pain throughout the years and shooting pain/sciatica down my leg.  I went to physical therapy and would use the form roller pretty consistently.  Despite this, this old injury became a "part of my story".  I just assumed it was with me for life as I approached turning 50 years old.  I started working with Sheila and she gave me strengthening exercises to do 3 days a week.  She explained to me that the pain was coming from weaknesses and by doing strengthening exercises I will get stronger and this will get better in time.  I did them as instructed and started to notice that my "speed bump" of scar tissue around my left hip was going away.  I could even relax my hip to the ground when I sat in a cross legged position (something I haven't been able to do for years) without pain.  In short, working with Sheila has given me a new appreciation of strengthening "weak areas" versus labeling them as injuries.  A great take home message for me.  Thanks Sheila!
